We create approachable learning portals for organizations with specialist knowledge to share, balancing the needs of learners, authors, and the people responsible for understanding engagement.
That can include custom course experiences, content workflows, assessment tools, and reporting shaped around the way your program actually works.
Interactive courses built around real learning
We create highly interactive e-Learning courses using PureLMS, our own custom learning platform, which we plan to release as open source soon. Because we control the platform as well as the course experience, we can shape both around the subject matter, the learners, and the goals of each program.
Open edX experience
We also have extensive experience working with Open edX systems. We can support organizations that already use the platform while tailoring the learning experience to their content, learners, and operational needs.
Technical simulations inside the course
When the subject calls for it, we can integrate simulations into the learning experience using engines such as EnergyPlus, Modelica models packaged as FMUs, and other complex libraries and specialist tools. Learners can explore realistic scenarios and see the consequences of their decisions without leaving the course.
Practice over presentation
We believe effective courses should center highly interactive assessments and activities. Learners should make decisions, test ideas, and apply what they know—not simply click through remediated PowerPoint slides.
A custom LMS for science students
We built and managed a custom Learning Management System (LMS) for "iBiology Courses," an online learning project by Science Communication Labs.
We built and shaped the technology around the team's goals and the needs of a science education program, rather than the limitations of a generic course platform. The platform supported more than 5,000 undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral learners, with excellent completion rates and learner reviews.
A peer-reviewed paper in PLOS Biology describes how the courses combined videos, podcasts, infographics, templates, and reflective exercises. Learners applied each lesson to their own research, and left the course with a practical work plan.
In post-course surveys, 86–90% of respondents across three courses said the experience better prepared them for upcoming scientific work.
The platform has since become KinesinLMS, an open-source LMS that gives small education teams a practical foundation for delivering thoughtful online courses.
