Working as an independent software developer to provide clients with efficient, helpful, and usable software applications. Most work has been in the e-Learning field or in the field of building energy analysis and simulation. Developed both desktop and web-based solutions, handling software architecture, information design, user interface design, front-end development, and back-end development — with a continual focus on usability and efficient, clean code.
Current and former clients include Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Science Communication Lab, Fenestralia (AU), Vitesse Learning, The Deringer Group, Simulat Interactive, Apexion Software, Mueller Design and others. Technologies include Python, Django, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Celery, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Angular, HTMX, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, EnergyPlus, Radiance, WINDOW7, THERM, and many other languages, frameworks, and applications.
Projects

- Validibot
- Creator and maintainer of Validibot, a SaaS product that helps organizations validate user data.
- iBiology Courses
- Built and maintained the online courses platform for Science Communication Lab over a 10-year period, delivering education to more than 10,000 biology professionals, grad students and undergraduates.
- KinesinLMS
- Transformed the custom iBiology Courses LMS into an open-source (AGPL) Learning Management System under a supplementary NIH iPERT grant.
- IGSDB Web Application
- Created the data model, web application, and API for LBNL's International Glazing and Shading Database, including the API-based publishing workflow with CheckerTool.
- BETTER Web Application
- Rewrote and extended LBNL's BETTER Django application, adding a full-featured Django REST Framework API and an asynchronous Celery workflow to help building operators identify cost-saving energy efficiency measures.
- COMFEN
- Designed a single-zone energy simulation desktop application for architects and engineers, integrating EnergyPlus, WINDOW7 and Radiance for energy and daylighting analysis.
- SensorSuitcase
- Built the cross-platform desktop analysis application for LBNL's SensorSuitcase toolkit, a joint LBNL and PNNL project awarded the 2020 Federal Laboratory Consortium Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer.
- SimpleDiagrams
- Cross-platform desktop application that made sketching and diagramming fun.
