Over the last year or so, I've been working on a new, open-source Learning Management System (LMS) for my client, Science Communication Labs. It's written in Django and is designed to be useful to the single developer or small dev team. KinesinLMS grew out of the small, custom LMS I created for SCL in reaction to the horror of building and hosting Open edX for years.

We have a draft submission to the Journal of Open Source Education, which provides some background and motivation on the project. Essentially, it's a lightweight LMS that you should be able to quickly extend or build on.

Either way, I'm just kind of stoked to have released a fully-featured open-source project...my first after quite a long time working as a dev. I even came up with a logo:

None

Of course you noticed that the K reflects a kinesin molecule, and the dot to the "i" is the protein it's carrying. Soo obvious, right? Why have I even mentioned it?

Give KinesinLMS a try. Or stay tuned as we add some new features, like full LTIv1.3 connectivity to things like JupyterHub or MatLab.
